Petardos, pirotecnia, fuegos artificiales, ruidos fuertes, etc. son un horror para los autistas.
En determinadas fiestas locales como las Fallas, en Navidad y especialmente en Nochevieja, los fuegos artificiales y los petardos son una de las mayores diversiones para mucha gente.
Pero no todos lo pasan bien. Los perros sufren especialmente con ellos, al igual que algunos niños pequeños que le tienen verdadero terror, y sobre todo los niños con autismo, a menudo olvidados, y que sufren horrores con la pirotecnia.
Una de las principales características de estos niños es que padecen un desorden del procesamiento sensorial, tienen los sentidos exacerbados, y especialmente el oído, percibiendo los ruidos de manera aumentada.
Son hipersensibles a los sonidos y a las luces, por lo que los espectáculos de fuegos artificiales se convierten en una auténtica tortura para ellos.
Los estruendos provocados por los fuegos artificiales y los petardos les genera un alto nivel de ansiedad y estrés, incluso pueden causarles crisis, episodios en los que se ponen muy tensos, lloran, gritan, se tapan los oídos desesperadamente y en algunos casos pueden llegar a autolesionarse o presentar convulsiones.
Muchas familias con niños con autismo buscan estrategias para protegerlos, preparándolos con antelación durante días, o buscan sitios alejados para pasar las fiestas y así evitar exponerlos a los ruidos, pero no siempre es posible.
