La clasificación más conocida de la ecolalia es la inmediata (enseguida después de oírla) o tardía (tiempo después).
No obstante, es importante destacar que el repetir frases y palabras en niños y niñas más grandecitos (dígase de 3 años en adelante) lo pueden hacer en forma de ‘burla’, pero ya se nota que es voluntaria.
Lo importante es que si la ecolalia persiste y no va disminuyendo debe consultarse al especialista para hacer el diagnóstico diferencial, ya que la presencia SOLA de este signo clínico no es criterio suficiente para hablar de autismo.
Recordemos que para llegar a este diagnóstico clínico, se deben reunir una serie de características observadas e interrogadas por un profesional en el área.
Las causas de la ecolalia aún no han sido del todo identificadas, son muchas las conjeturas al respecto y esto es lo mismo que pasa en todas las hipótesis planteadas alrededor del TEA, sin embargo, las variables a considerar cuando de lenguaje estamos hablando, son muchas, porque esta es una función mental superior que requiere de múltiples redes neuronales distribuidas en todo el cerebro para su correcto funcionamiento.
Si algo interfiere en la adecuada conexión de las neuronas, algo veremos reflejado en el habla.
Decir que la ecolalia no tiene cura es irresponsable, por ende, se deben evaluar todos los posibles detonantes no solo en el sistema fonador, sino en otros sistemas como el gastrointestinal, metabólico, inmunológico, etc., para su correcto abordaje; es por esto que el médico especializado (con conocimiento de la condición) haga esta investigación y se trabaje de la mano con el terapeuta de lenguaje con el fin de obtener los mejores resultados.
