Primeramente hay que tener en cuenta que los niños con Autismo, requieren de una dieta especial, ya que el retiro de alimentos como colorantes, azucares refinadas, lácteos, conservantes y gluten, ayuda a moderar las conductas en los mismos, trayendo beneficios notables.
Las comidas para niños con Autismo, se basan principalmente en una dieta libre de gluten, el cual es un componente localizado en la harina de trigo, la cual compone alimentos como el pan, galletas, pastas, tortas, entre otros alimentos.
Por ese motivo, los niños autistas no pueden comer harinas derivadas del trigo, avena, centeno, cebada, almidón, cereales, semolina, además hay que estar atentos a productos artificiales.
Así suelen comenzar las recomendaciones de alimentación.
Las dietas restrictivas, riesgos y beneficios
Según estudios llevados a cabo en Europa y EE.UU. se estima que alrededor del 50% de las familias de niños con autismo han seguido algún tipo de dieta restrictiva, siendo la más famosa la que elimina lácteos y gluten. Se ha creado una corriente que asocia determinados alimentos con el autismo.
A pesar de la innumerable cantidad de estudios que se han llevado a cabo para confirmar este hecho a día de hoy aún no se ha podido comprobar esta relación. Lo que sí se ha comprobado desde tiempos inmemorables es que cuando comes un alimento que te sienta mal tu salud empeora y por tanto también tú conducta.
Y esto es aplicable al 100% de la población, tengas autismo o no. Es importante poder separar de forma adecuada los aspectos de la calidad nutricional y de alimentación del niño y la existencia o no de un trastorno.
Muchas familias que pusieron a dieta a sus hijos hablan maravillas del efecto de la dieta. Suelen informar que el niño tenía desordenes alimenticios y que tras poner a dieta al niño su conducta mejoró de forma inmediata. Lo que suelen obviar en esta explicación es que no fue sino hasta el momento de poner a dieta al niño cuando se trabajo su desorden alimenticio.
Y al ir resolviendo este desorden alimenticio el niño mejoró. Es decir, no fue la dieta en sí lo que produjo la mejora en el niño, sino la intervención que se llevó a cabo para resolver el desorden de alimentación.
Con esto no quiero decir que haya niños que realmente necesitan eliminar determinados alimentos de su dieta, ya que la prevalencia de alergias e intolerancias entre niños con autismo no va a diferir demasiado del resto de niños.
Y obviamente si se retiran los alimentos que le provocan malestar, el niño va a mejorar a nivel global sí o sí. Muchas familias que inician algún tipo de dieta con sus hijos, cuando la abandonan no notan retrocesos, de hecho muchas informan de un mayor avance.
Es decir, que debemos ser muy cuidadosos con este aspecto y saber diferenciar entre un desorden alimenticio y una alergia o intolerancia.
Existe una máxima que dice “Somos lo que comemos”, es muy importante el tener una alimentación sana y equilibrada para tener un buen estado de salud, al igual que lo es tener hábitos saludables de vida, hecho que nos dará un mejor estado de salud y por tanto mejorará nuestra calidad de vida a nivel global, y en el caso de un niño con autismo esto también es aplicable.
